User Experience (UX) - Paid Internship
Sharper Sense is an early stage neurotechnology company spun out of Columbia and Cornell University and backed by multiple venture capital groups including Joyance Partners, SOSV, and ComcastNBC. We are developing neuromodulation technology that enhances users’ sensory acuity. The technology uses noninvasive electrical stimulation to optimize brain state. Many commercial, clinical, and consumer uses. Following positive results in multiple pilot clinical studies, the company is now hiring for new roles supporting the design and testing of self-contained neurostimulation patch hardware.
Open Position: User Experience (UX) - Intern
Location: In-person at our office in Newark, NJ + remote when possible (hybrid).
Role: Assist in the testing and optimization of the user experience for our noninvasive neuromodulation wearables.
Skills: Education and experience with research, user experience testing, data collection, analyzing data to find actionable insights
Type: Paid internship. Option for full-time or part-time depending on availability, fit.
Pay: $17 per hour.
We are seeking a student, who has experience with user experience (UX) research, to join our team and support testing and optimization of our self-contained wearable neurostimulation patch. You will work closely with our full-time team that includes an embedded hardware engineer, embedded firmware engineer, biomedical engineer, and a neuroscientist, while they design, test, and optimize wearable noninvasive neurostimulation technology.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with product design by evaluating and enhancing the usability, accessibility, ergonomics, and overall user experience
• Help design, conduct, and analyze user research studies including usability tests, interviews, surveys, and heuristic evaluations.
• Determine user needs, behaviors, and pain points.
• Contribute to the iterative design process by synthesizing findings into actionable insights and user-centered design feedback.
• Document research methodologies, results, and recommendations. Create user personas, journey maps, and present insights.
Required Education and Work Experience
• Ongoing studies (or degree) in user experience (UX) design, human-computer interaction (HCI), human factors, ergonomics, or a related field.
• Have taken courses on, or worked with, user research methods, usability testing, A/B testing, user interviews, surveying, data analysis.
• Further beneficial experience could include work with user personas, user journey maps, industrial design, wearables, or psychology.

• Passionate about neurotechnology and its potential to benefit society
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Located in the New York metropolitan area and able to start work within 30 days of being hired.
