Biomedical Engineer / Materials Science - Paid Internship
Sharper Sense is an early-stage neurotechnology company (spun out of Columbia and Cornell; backed by Joyance Partners, SOSV, and ComcastNBC). We develop wearable, noninvasive neuromodulation patches that use electrical stimulation to optimize brain state, cognition, and sensory processing. Following successful pilot clinical studies, we are hiring to support the design and testing of the skin adhesives used in our self-contained patch hardware.
Open Position: Biomedical / Materials Engineering - Intern (Skin-Safe Wearable Adhesives)
Location: New York, NY + remote when possible (hybrid).
Role: Assist in the design, development, and testing of adhesives and materials used in wearable human neurostimulation patches.
Skills: Experience with skin adhesives, biocompatibility, roll to roll conversion, thin films, wearable devices, material science.
Type: Paid internship. Option for full-time or part-time depending on availability, fit.
Pay: $18 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
• Prototyping: Build multi-layer flexible patch stacks using adhesives, hydrogels, conductive materials, and electrode components.
• Testing & Wear Evaluations: Conduct structured internal human wear tests to assess adhesion, comfort, skin response, edge lift, sweat tolerance, residue, and electrical compatibility.
• Data Analysis: Analyze wear-test and experimental data using Excel, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar tools, summarizing findings into actionable design recommendations.
• Documentation & Compliance: Document material properties, safety data, and map candidate materials against ISO 10993 biocompatibility requirements.
